I read all the Mustang mags but none ever cover a 96-98 2v, 4.6 except to say how underpowered they are. Well no s..t! Does anyone have any budget build ideas they have used/are using to make their same engine stang go faster? I'm not talking superchargers or turbo's (the most obvious) or the 4.6 DOHC, I mean basic bolt on like cams, head, etc. I have a family so I can't spend outrageously, and I do like the motor in it now, I just want more power if possible. I get a run for my money from a dang Chevy Cavalier and other various four bangers, so if anyone knows anything, please let me know. I am at the point where if I can't beat em, then I guess I gotta join em.

The best buy in terms of performance mods for your car would probably be to step up to a better rear-axle ratio. I believe the available ratios for a '96 were a 2.76 (standard) and 3.23 (optional). Ugh. Neither is very good!
You'll be pleasantly surprised by how much punchier it'll feel with a 3.73. And it's not all that expensive to have it done. I had a '98 GT and it made all the difference. Dave www.autiv.com/articles/dr...g_gt_1.htm |
