yup exactly what happened to me except i was lucky enough for it to die in a parking garage. if its the same thing that happened to my escort (1996 lx 1.9L manual) then the timing belt was bad, 2 of 4 valves are broken, and a piston is broken. it costs more to repair it than the car is worth. get a new car

If you were lucky enough, the timing belt just broke, and no other parts were affected, happened to me right in my driveway while idling, I would have it checked out to make sure there is no other damage and decide if it's worth fixing.
VERY Important , get a mechanic you trust. |

Sudden engine stop like that is usually timing belt. It's free to inspect. Just your time.
On these engines it doesn't damage the valves when it goes. Get someone to have a look. Check autozone for instructions if you don't have a manual. |
