Posts: 1 (04/10/05 20:21:59) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None During a short drive, our '96 Escort LX Wagon (1.9 litre 5 speed) sputtered and died about 150 yards from home (whew!). Thought we might be out of gas, so walked to the gas station. Engine now turns over, but will not start. Timing belt was replaced only a few months ago, so that's probably not the problem. Waited a few hours, returned to the car and tried again, still without any luck. Any other suggestions?

Posts: 2 (06/01/05 09:43:04) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	same thing happened to me. i was turning into a parking garage and my 1996 escort lx 1.9l sedan just turned off. it didnt work jump starting it so i had it towed. they estimated it at being $2000 to repair it. then they discovered 2 of the valves were broken and a piston was broken...so now the car is dead forever...and i'll really miss it. i loved my pimpscort

If you're still looking for an answer you've got a lot of patience. Love to know what you found. Often the answers inform us all. Could be the tensioner. Test the spark plugs the old fashioned way by looking for a spark. Test the fuel flow. One way is to crank the engine, then remove a plug and smell for gas. could always be a seriously clogged fuel filter. You usually get some firing though.
