I had an old '73 that got about 8-10 with huge 35" mudders and a 351W. I'm considering getting another bronco if I can make it practical. What can I expect from a nicely tuned 289/302 in terms of miles per gallon? And how much are the fuel injected 5.0's getting? Thanks, Darin

Posts: 21 (06/12/05 18:25:33) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	in a 93 5.0 mustang w/ Manuel trans. i could get approx 20 mpg if drivin conservatively / if equipped w/ an electric fan , same ratio roller rockers , high performance ignition components & advance timing 10 deg. , you may achieve 20 mpg in a bronco w/ 93 octane fuel /// if you plan to go carberated consider the 300 in line 6 cyl. , if the above mods are applied your performance will exceed the stock 302 & mileage will be significantly increased

So that leads to a couple of questions. A carbed motor can realistically get how much? Is high teens (18+) with a nicely tuned motor/carb, electric fan, headers, and ignition out of the question? Also, you mentioned the inline 6. I test drove one of those before I got my 351. The inline was a DOG. MPG is important but so is carrying you, your dog, and your buddy to the ski slopes and getting there before noon! ; ) But seriously, any idea how much power those put out or how many MPG? Anyone? By the way, a little tid bit... I seem to remember my '87 FI 5.0 getting around 22-25mpg driving mostly highway. I'm a pretty conservative driver. Anyone else know about the above or braking?

Posts: 21 (06/13/05 18:34:49) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	the best i have done w/ a carbed v8 is about 16 , this was a stock 351c in a 1970 cougar w/ elect. ignition ; approx. 265hp /// yes the 300 is a dog on freeway , has about 145hp but 265 ft lbs torque , it will pull its self out of just about anything but has very narrow power band at very low rpm's (max hp at 3400 rpms) the previous mods , a 2b carb & an RV cam will raise the rpm range ; i had an 82 f-250 with 1 barrel i6 & got 24 mpg /// as 4 my gas mileage in the mustang ; my conservative is keeping it under 4500 rpms

I average around 15 or so in the city on 87 octane fuel and around 19 on the highway
