I have a 93 Bronco Eddie Bauer w/ 5.8 ltr engine. While trying to idle the engile will act like its going to stall then will catch itself and bring the rmp's a little over 1000 then it will go back down, almost to stall then catch itself and so forth up and down. It does this when its cold and hot also when this happens the lights dim and the battery needle drops somewhat like its losing power. When I accelerate the vehicle spudders severly, begins to accelerate then jerks and spudders. This dosent happen all the time its unpredictable. I have changed the 02 sensor and the fuel filter. If anyone has any ideas please let me know, thanks.

did you recently disconnect the battery? This will happen (atleast it just happend in my 2001 Camaro SS) when you disconnect the battery. The computer has to relearn the idling position and it can take up to 20 minutes! You can take the car/truck out on the open parkway and just drive normal. It should drive fine after that.
If this doesnt work.. check your fuel pump? Fuel Lines? Do the broncos have a MAF? if so.. check that as well :? |

I just got my bronco 1994 5.8 back from the shop and they told me the problemwith studdering bad morning starts. i had replaced the egr valve but not the sensor on top of the egr. so step one I,m going to change that senor basically know as the evp sensor (egr valve position) sensor, next they said my Iac sensor was bad to.(idler air control)sensor. my haynes book shows both of them and I will change them this weekend.3/5/05 and give a report on the end result. I hope this helps you out. it just cost me one hundred bucks for this information from the ford dealer.

got out of that one cheap...
we're raising our diagnostic prices this weekend after a spate of multiple problem vehicles with owners wanting to install the "magic bullet" and bitching when THEY guessed wrong but just FYI... EVP sensors were REAL common on those.. |

WELL THAT FIXED MY BAD MORNING STARTS. BUT NOW i'M LOSING POWER AND SPUTTERING AND i BELIEVE IT IS THE FUEL PUMP. THE PUMP IS WINING VERY LOUDLY AND IT SEEMS THERE IS A LACK OF FUEL WHEN I EXCELERATE. SO OFF TO THE BANK i GO AGAIN. BUT iM SURE THIS IS THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE AND WORSE. AND I DON'T WANT TO END UP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ON THE WAY TO THE LAKE. WILL UP DATE SOON

Be sure to get a new fuel filter, if you haven't done that already. Pushing against a clogged filter makes the pump work harder and could be the reason for the increased pump noise. The telltale is the car starts and idles OK, but when asked to perform on the road it can't get enough gas through the filter. Just a thought. Good luck, Jim

Those increasing prices are what drive us old 50's and 60's teen-agers back to our snap-ons and coveralls. $75 an hour labor here in San Diego at some dealers. It's a supply and demand problem. They have more business than they can handle, because the average car owner is clueless about computer controlled engine and transmission systems. Since there's more repair business than they have time for , they can charge an arm and a leg. What can you do, buy a pre- 1970's car?????

I had changed the fuel filter not to long ago when the problem started chomping at my wallet. I guess it's like owning a boat. I usually just go down to the dock and throw a few hundred bucks into the boat and drive on back home. but I'm very interested in finding out my bronco's problem, just one part at a time and i'll have a new car after awhile. besides, the bronco is a very fun SUV to drive despite the overall maintenance. I imagine someone has had these similar problems. patience.

Have you replaced the TFI Module? The 87 302 I have in my 89 Bronco body & my 88 Cougar 6-popper have both behaved like this. After replacing the TFI modules in the two of them they both showed MARKED improvement.
