My VIN # is 1FABP60F4J218303 what dose this mean is there a web site I can go to so I can fined out what my car came out of the factory with and how can I tell what transmission I halve? I am hope it has an AOD so I can get a new stall and shift kit for it. Also how do I tell what rear end I halve if its a 7.5 or an 8.8 and where is the numbers on it to tell what is in side it? I use to be just a Chevy man so this ford is new territory for me.

if it's an '87 or '88 thunderbird it has an 8.8 if a '83- '86 thunderbird it has the 'falcon' 7.5. If you are worried think of it this way.. a chevy 10 bolt rear end isn't much stronger than a ford 7.5.. The ford 8.8 is something you aren't going to break with under 800hp. I like the 8.8 because it's tough and it's light. It's VERY much like the chevy 12 bolt, in fact I've even heard it said that there was alittle industrial espionage with those two. If you have a '83 through '88 thunderbird with either a 3.8 v6 or a 5.0 v8 and an automatic transmission it's an AOD. The only other one made was the turbocoupe with the 2.3 turbocharged 4 cylinder. The transmissions between the 5.0 and the 3.8 thunderbirds, even tho they were equiped with the same AOD transmission were the number of clutches in the forward gear clutch packs.. the V6 had 3 and the V8 had 4. If you need any parts I either have them or can get them. Feel free to email me.

You seem to have a fair bit of knowledge on Ford T-Birds. I posted a message earlier regarding my 83 turbo coupe.Do you have a website of some sorts?
