The Ford Mustang received a rapturous reception when it first appeared in 1964, becoming the fastest selling Ford of all time. Key to its success was the endless array of configurations and options to choose from: The Mustang could be anything from a basic economical 6-cylinder compact to a high-performance V8-engined muscle car. By the end of the sixties there were a number of high performance Mustangs on offer; notably the Mach 1, Boss 429, and the Shelby versions.
