Ford Fairmont V8 offers a very soft ride. Large potholes are absorbed with only a distant 'thunk' from the double wishbone front and Control Blade independent rear suspension and there's absolutely no ride harshness over any surface. No question, the suspension performs exceptionally well - just so long as you drive fairly serenely.

Got a '79 Fairmont. It's got a C-4 tranny & I've installed a B&M - shift kit, but the problems remain. When I put it in gear, the tranny waits about 5 - 10 seconds to drop into gear. But, if I put the gear selector into L-1 and shift manually through the gears, it shifts fine. Is there possibly something wrong with the servo? Am I possibly looking at another tranny?

Changed water pump at 140,000km's.

Car was in the family from brand new. Never had a major problem. Very comfortable car to drive. Ample amounts of torque compared to my previous VR Commodore. Although not as quick off the line as the VR was it requires less effort to overtake. Also much more fuel efficient than the VR (Get around 400k's for stop start driving).

The only notable thing to go wrong with this car is the radiator blocked up causing it to overheat at 150000km's. I am told this is fairly common for all the falcons and fairlanes from 1990 to 1998. EA to EL. This was relatively inexpensive to fix at around $200.

The motor still purrs quietly with no rattles at 175000km's.

The interior trim is still good.

The paintwork is still good.

The car still looks nice, and presents well on the road.
General...

Headlight switch broke at 64,000km, uses excessive fuel when air conditioner is on, digital display is playing up, passenger electric window jammed open at 68,000 got replaced and jammed again. Challenger Ford don't like doing warranty work.
This car is seriously quick and handles like it's on rails. It has very cool tyres and handles the road really well. Not very comfortable on long trips due to leather seats. Other than that it is a great car to drive.
