I was driving along when suddenly my 1997 Ford Contour just died. I cruised to a halt, put it in park, turned everything off, and tried starting it up again. The engine makes a terrible grinding noise but the engine does not turn over and start. The brake peddle feels a little stiff. I have just had the transmission replaced (about 4 months ago and have done about 1000 miles since then) and had the oxygen sensors replaced about 3 months ago. I am trying to decide where to take it (mechanical...

I can't figure this one out. I have a 98 Contour with only 26K and a v-6. It seems to start hard when it's hot, otherwise it seems to run perfrectly. When it starts hard its clearly flooded, blows a puff of black smoke and stinks like gas. The spark plugs are all black in color and wet. Checked the fuel pressure regulator, works perfect good fuel pressures, hold vacuum. Replaced plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter. Thought it might be leaky injectors flooding the engine but ALL of them?...

My 2000 Contour was running perfectly when I parked it. The next morning at startup the check engine light came on. I checked all of the obvious things, oil, water levels, dirty air filter, etc. before driving it. It idles perfectly until the engine is revved upto 3/4 wide open. At that point the engine starts surging as if gas supply is pulsing. Engine is not missing, but car accelerates slightly slower than normal up to highway speed then really hesitates if you try to accelerate above...

I was fooling with the wires to the high pressure switch for the A/C and when I jumped a hot wire to the plug the engine would quit. It restarted. The car sat for a few days and now won't start. Fuel pressure is ok, fuses are ok. I checked power to tps, ok. The cooling fan runs all the time and the temp gauge isn't working, is the sensor telling the pcm the car is over heated and shuttiing it down? The pcm will not communicate with a obdII scanner. I'm lost.
Thanks, Randy
