A top-of-the-line LX edition came only as a 4-door. A driver-side airbag had been optional on 4-doors as early as 1986, though not many were installed. I am new to this site.

I have a '92 Tempo with 6 cylinder engine (120k miles).

The car runs and drives just fine *except* it has an intermittant problem where it will refuse to shift. Usually it will shift into second gear but not into third so that I can't drive more than about 30 mph. One time it would not even move at all. The problem always disappears if I let the car sit and then it will drive fine. This happens maybe once every two or three weeks.

This...

The 4000 rpms are at 72mph or so (you know, the speed at which traffic flows smooth). Any tips will help. How can I research what will fit? Is there a reference book to show compatibility? I want to reduce the rpm's, which will increase fuel economy by 5mpg also. Less rpm's means longer engine life, and shifting is still...
